Ah...i'll get ard to posting my original anime list sometime...some of it are "malaysian" originals and either dun work or are not gd enough quality so i have to sort those out first.

wanting to join on the RE: band wagon...may i suggest a name for the event?

RE:Animate/Animation/Anime

or something along those lines
RE can stand for Revelation/Revolution/Re-anything~ or just Reanimate (cough cough RE:do)

OH btw, can i clarify, FF7AC...complete? i think complete was nicer...for a lot of scenes ^^ and the storyline fits better...

>_<;; ...i'm deciding between sky crawlers and tokikake(toki o kakeru shoujo/the girl who leapt through time)...tokikake has a more general appeal but sky crawlers is a more artistic film...but might not appeal to as many ppl...(even going by the polls current results...)

True dat, I think Okto's screened Girl Who Leapt Through Time like twice already. But there still might be alot of people who have yet to watch, or some that might like to rewatch, considering Summer Wars from the same production team just came out in Japan.

However, if we are going for a Mamoru Oshii film, I'd rather we go for Ghost in the Shell rather than Sky Crawlers, since sky crawlers was only screened in cinemas rather recently and someone else in this thread mentioned that GitS is available.

hmmm well yea personally i dun exactly like all the political stuff...but it is a good example of anime history~~ it DID influence the matrix
Matrix vs GitS

watch from 1:27 onwards to see all the stuff the matrix copied from GitS...it looks so similar it borders on piracy...they even copied the watermelons wth?!

I remember seeing the business library showcasing the entire DVD box set of GITS. Not sure if some arrangement can be made for us to borrow that, and whatever series they might also have, for the screening.

GITS itself has 5 movies: Original, Innocence, Solid State Society (SSS), The Laughing Man & Individualist Eleven.

The original should be easier for a general audience; Innocence & SSS has a truckload of quotes from mostly philosophical books and ideological books. Can very easily get a brain concussion if you are not into such stuff Evil or Very Mad

On the contrary if you are into such deep thought topics, then it is probably the best (because it's the only) anime that seeks to deeply engage its audience intellectually. <--- Me

GitS:SAC (the TV series, that is) has standalone episodes interspersed between the the complex episodes (aka the laughing man arc). its basically a high-tech cop show with a little philosophy here and there. should appeal to the general public more than the original movie; which i find to be more philosophical. one thing about GitS:SAC though is that some or most of the story has its foundation in politics, which i find hard to follow.

for those interested in the deeper themes, GitS:SAC also has entire episodes dedicated to the tachikomas and their AI, questioning whether they could be considered sentient or not...

Not a good idea to show Solid State Society straight off the bat, people who've yet to wtahc the main SAC series might find themselves lost. I think thr ogiginal GiTs would be more accessible, or at least the first SAC compilation movie.

Or perhaps another Mamoru Oshii film, like Patlabor and Jin-Roh, both of which I feel number among his better works.
