Summer Wars (Movie) Outing

At long last, one of 2009's top anime movies, Summer Wars, is coming to cinemas here in Singapore! I'd rather have The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi, Nanoha Movie 1st or Unlimited Blade Works, but that's another issue.

Directed by Hosoda Mamoru, the very same director who gave us Toki wo Kakeru Shoujo / The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, this is one movie that should not be missed by any self-respecting otaku (other than Eva 2.0).

The movie itself also has numerous accolades to its name:
1) Animation Film Award at 64th Mainichi Film Awards
2) Award of Excellence (Animation Category) in Animation at 33rd Japan Academy Prizes
3) Grand Prize (Animation Division) at 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards
4) Gertie aka highest possible award (Anima't section) at Sitges Film Festival

There will be a club mini-outing to see this movie on its release weekend.

R2 DVD release for this movie will be coming out in Match. But expect quality rips and translations to be out closer to April / May.

Ticket prices will be SGD$10 per ticket since it will be a weekend. Unfortunately no price discounts for either Cathay E-Pass or LinkPoints related cards.

Yeah, apparently the movie explores the impacts of social networking rather deeply.

It is official! Cathay has finally revealed that the movie will officially open in less than 2 weeks time, on 21 Feb 2010!

Outing date has been adjusted to the opening day. It also happens to be the start of the Recess Week as well (very nice timing).

The recess week officially starts 27 Feb 2010 to 7 March 2010.

As such, the outing date has been finalized to 27 Feb 2010. The exact timing for meeting up will be confirmed as well by next week once Cathay releases the screening schedules.

This is one thing I can agree with you despite our disagreements over almost everything else.
